Networking Features:

Out-of-the-box Bandwidth, Latency, and Packet Monitoring

Begin monitoring your switches, routers, and network devices for bandwidth, latency, and packet performance with just a couple clicks. MonitorIT automatically queries your device to discover all of the ports along with the port description and interface speed to clearly identify what is being monitored. From the dashboard, administrators and engineers can drill into a device, to view trending bandwidth utilization, packet perforance, and latency down to the interface for all devices including enterprise and stacked switches.

Consolidated Dashboard and Reporting

MonitorIT’s extensive reporting and analysis features let you gather and view incredibly detailed information about the systems and servers monitored, with recommendations for improvement.  The data and analysis are easily accessed and interpreted from a single dashboard, giving your IT staff a great deal of efficiency MonitorIT scales to monitor over 2,000 local and remote, Agent based, servers & workstations plus thousands of devices offering network managers a consolidated, dynamic status view on a single dashboard display. Users can access MonitorIT anytime, from anywhere, using an Internet Explorer Web browser to view real-time monitoring data and dynamic dashboard displays, generate reports and perform administration tasks.

Real-Time SNMP Performance Monitoring

CounterWatch for SNMP proactively polls to monitor any select SNMP Counters. The MonitorIT Server component provides the SNMP CounterWatch polling by default. MonitorIT also utilizes the comprehensive SNMP CounterWatch performance data to trigger alerts if specified thresholds are exceeded. Custom SNMP CounterWatch report collection sets/templates can be created to analyze, troubleshoot, report, and provide baseline & trending data.

Real-Time SNMP Trap Monitoring

SNMP TrapWatch monitors your SNMP enabled servers and network devices for SNMP Traps. User defined alert notifications for SNMP traps from acceptable devices is received by MonitorIT and then reviewable in the Alert Notifications report. Comprehensive historical trap details as well as more granular event notifications can be derived.

Additionally, MonitorIT includes a MIB parsing feature to extract and make available the SNMP Trap OIDs from your server and device MIBs, to easily define the watches for SNMP Traps. The SNMPTrapWatch Display enables administrators and network engineers the ability to view received, monitored Traps dynamically as they occur, and to display up to the previous 24 hours of previously received, monitored Traps.

Real-Time Syslog Monitoring

SYSLOGWatch monitors Syslog messages transmitted from your selected servers and network infrastructure devices such as firewalls and routers. The MonitorIT Server listens on the standard Syslog UDP port for these messages and processes them according to your specified Syslog Watch/Alerts. You can be alerted when selected Syslog messages are received, and you can use SYSLOGWatch to centralize your Syslog collection, management and reporting. Review the history of all or selected Syslog messages received in the MonitorIT “Alert Notifications” report. Use the SYSLOGWatch Display feature to view monitored Syslog messages dynamically as they occur and to display the previous 24 hours of previously received Syslog messages.

A powerful Syslog Archive Viewer is provided where you can view select Archived Syslog messages based on filters that you easily define for Syslog messages in the Archived Syslog files, or events in Monitor’s database that were captured with your real-time Syslog Watches. You can filter the monitoring and viewing of Syslog messages based on content with the ability to specify compound/complex search string criteria. For any Syslog messages that match your view filter, you have the options to Print, Email, or Export to a CSV file.

Managed Service Providers and Distributed Enterprises

Managed Service Providers and distributed enterprises can additionally designate one or more deployed MonitorIT Agents to act as remote, distributed monitors that forward the SNMP CounterWatch data or monitor SNMP traps. Traps that match your defined watches are forwarded on to the MonitorIT Server over the encrypted Agent connection for logging to the database and any alert notification processing. Similarly MonitorIT Agents can also be designated as remote, distributed Syslog collectors/servers. Agents so designated will forward Syslog messages to the MonitorIT Server over the encrypted Agent connection for logging and alert notification processing according to your defined SyslogWatch rules.

FAQs

Product Functionality

What network devices can you monitor?

MonitorIT has the capabilities, out-of-the-box, to monitor via Syslog and SNMP including traps, polling, and querying. This includes routers, switches, access points, firewalls, load balancers, and any other SNMP or Syslog enabled device within your environment.

What information can I receive by monitoring network devices such as switches or routers?

We can monitor for availability, bandwidth, latency, and packets per second on any of your SNMP enabled network devices.

What can you monitor via SNMP?

MonitorIT leverages SNMP Trap and SNMP Query Monitoring to collect information from any device that is SNMP enabled to analyze, troubleshoot, report, and provide baseline and trending data. Additionally, MonitorIT includes a MIB parsing feature to extract and make available the SNMP Trap OIDs from your server and device MIBs, to easily define the monitoring rules for SNMP Trap.

What can you monitor via Syslog?

MonitorIT allows you to collect Syslog messages transmitted from your selected servers and network infrastructure devices such as firewalls and routers. The MonitorIT Server listens on the standard Syslog UDP port for these messages and processes them according to your specified Syslog Alerts. You can be alerted when selected Syslog messages are received, and you can use SYSLOGWatch to centralize your Syslog collection, management and reporting.

How do you monitor remote locations?

The Intelligent Agent can be designated a “Master Agent” which allows it to capture SNMP Traps and Syslog messages from any such enabled device in your environment. If an SNMP Trap or Syslog alerting condition is triggered, the “Master Agent” will then send alerts to the Monitor IT server. This is incredibly helpful as it provides a facility for deploying agents at a remote site, behind a firewall to monitor network devices, while negating the requirement to deploy an additional monitoring server to each location.

Key Features and Why They Are Important

Remote Site Monitoring

Many distributed enterprises and service providers face challenges in monitoring the virtual environment outside of their core infrastructure. In order to monitor their Citrix XenServer, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual hosts remotely, administrators often deploy secondary instances of their monitoring solutions, which complicates management or increases cost because proxies or secondary servers are required. With “Master Agent functionality,” the IT professional can designate any agent at a remote site a master agent and it will monitor remote hypervisors and surrounding infrastructure, sending exception based alerts through the firewall when predetermined thresholds are breached.
