Performance Monitoring of Virtual Server and Desktop Infrastructure Drives Rapid Growth

Philadelphia, Pa—February 15th, 2012—Goliath Technologies, a leading provider of systems management software for hybrid, physical and virtual IT environments, announced today that the company experienced record growth in 2012. License revenues increased by 125% on a year over year basis and over 170 new customers were added.

“We are in the middle of a paradigm shift. As applications are being migrated to virtual servers’ en-masse, there is a need for enterprise monitoring solutions that provide visibility into all layers of the virtual stack. Legacy products don’t work well in virtual environments and the new monitoring technologies designed for the virtual environment only utilize the hypervisor API, which doesn’t provide a lens into the applications running on the guest machines, guest OS or hardware,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. “An administrator either has to force fit a legacy product or deploy a virtual-only solution and contend with blind spots where the application, OS and host are concerned. Companies select Goliath Technologies over other solutions because we solve this problem with an enterprise class performance monitoring technology that was designed to provide performance metrics on the hardware, host hypervisor, guest OS and applications on those guests in a single console. This is why we added two to three customers each week.”

“We used N-able for several years, but as our business grew and our market evolved, so did our needs for high-technology tools that support our clients’ ever changing, complex infrastructures,” said Frank Jones, President of CPU. “We needed a product that offered the ability to monitor, analyze and report on the performance of XenServer, XenApp and XenDesktop at remote customer sites. We evaluated SolarWinds, Nimsoft, GFI, Kaseya, Remote Assist, PacketTrap, eG Innovations and attempted to work with N-able. Our extensive search led us to Goliath Technologies. Their product manages the required virtual server, application and desktop elements, but the way it’s architected to accomplish these elements is what separated them from other offerings. Their Intelligent Agent, for instance, will save hours of setup time because of automated deployment. It also provides extensive data collection and reporting, remediation and log management, all essential to meeting our SLA’s.”

Raja Jadeja, VP of Technical Operations, offered his take. “The MonitorIT product is really one of the only complete monitoring solutions available today. My customers need a product that will give them visibility into every aspect of their infrastructure and most products are designed to monitor only one or two elements in the IT environment. This creates silos of visibility, which spell trouble if a problem occurs, because it is difficult to determine causality and remediate quickly.” He continued, “If you look at many offerings, you will see they are designed to monitor only virtual environments and therefore are limited to only metrics gathered from the hypervisor. Our customers know that the physical infrastructure must be monitored as well and they want to purchase one product to accomplish this task. MonitorIT gives them this capability.”

About Goliath Technologies
Goliath Technologies is focused on systems management software for IT organizations that address the evolving challenges of managing physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. These hybrid environments require solutions that are scalable, cost effective and easy to use. Many legacy technologies are difficult to deploy and expensive to maintain and, as a result, are not well suited for this new paradigm. Inexpensive or free technologies, though easy to deploy and use, lack enterprise functionality and scalability. Both are slow to add features that are required to support physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. At Goliath, we provide products that fill this gap with the right combination of scalability and functionality at a reasonable cost that embrace the complexities of virtualization and cloud computing. Headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, our software is used by customers worldwide including ADP, ING Direct, MindShift, Thompson Reuters and Shell.

Philadelphia PA February 01, 2013—Calor Gas, the leading provider of liquefied petroleum gas for homes, businesses, and the automotive industry selected Goliath Technologies performance monitoring, analysis and reporting solution for their VMware environment after an extensive evaluation of the available technologies, including VeeamONE.

“We were looking for a performance monitoring, analysis and reporting solution for our VMware vSphere environment. Our evaluation included comparing products from Goliath Technologies and a leading competitor,” said Ian Harris, Senior Network Analyst at Calor Gas. “We were surprised at how closely the products compared overall, when monitoring the VMware host and virtual machines. One of the key differences was that MonitorIT could also monitor the remainder of our infrastructure. This is an area that could not be fulfilled by the other product at present. At the end of the day, the virtual server environment relies on physical hardware and that must be monitored as well.”

Goliath Technologies offers one of the only comprehensive virtual infrastructure monitoring solutions in the market today. The technology offers a system administrator the capability of monitoring the host, virtual machines, OS and applications from a single console. This single product also monitors physical servers, network elements, databases and desktops. This complete visibility significantly improves the process of determining root cause and remediating any performance issue in the virtual environment or surrounding infrastructure.

“It is fairly clear that we are moving into the next phase of virtual server adoption in data centers based on the presence of a familiar trend. Whether it was Mainframes to Unix or Unix to Windows, large scale movement of business critical applications take place years after the new server platform has been adopted,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. He continued, “As applications are being migrated to virtual servers en-masse there is a need for enterprise monitoring solutions that provide visibility into all the layers of the virtual stack. Legacy products don’t work well in virtual environments and the new monitoring technologies, designed for the virtual environment, only utilize the hypervisor API which doesn’t provide a lens into the applications running on the guest machines, guest OS or hardware.

Philadelphia, PA January 29, 2013 – XenWinGo is a provider of robust and secure applications hosted in the cloud and delivered as a service. As a Citrix Gold Solution Advisor, XenWinGo offers fully hosted and managed XenApp and XenDesktop applications to many customers from SMB’s to large enterprises.

“When we decided to offer hosted applications obviously we needed a solution for performance monitoring, reporting and analysis. We evaluated SolarWinds, Nimsoft, GFI, Kaseya, Remote Assist, PacketTrap, eG Innovations and N-able. Our extensive search led us to Goliath Technologies. Their MonitorIT product provides valuable feedback and early warning signs—for proactive monitoring–within the Citrix environment, not currently available from other solutions. With the ability to customize some of the screens and dashboards, MonitorIT quickly became our leading choice to monitor Citrix XenApp/Desktop and the supporting infrastructure. In addition, the price point of the solution supported our business model.”

Goliath Technologies offers one of the only comprehensive infrastructure monitoring solutions in the market today that is architected for use by Cloud Providers. This multi-tenant technology allows an administrator to monitor the entire physical and virtual infrastructure from a single console. This complete and unified view accelerates root cause analysis and remediation. The cost and ease of use make it especially attractive to Cloud Providers that are under pressure to balance margins with SLA’s.

“We are quite pleased that the team from XenWinGo has chosen Goliath Technologies as the sole provider of performance monitoring, analysis and reporting for their virtual server and desktop environments,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. “While many companies have re-cast their products as solutions designed for Service Providers, the functionality they offer doesn’t reflect an understanding of the unique challenges faced by the vendors in this rapidly growing market sector. Before anyone had coined the phrase Cloud Computing, our earliest customers were Service Providers who had to manage remote environments, meet stringent SLA’s and manage sometimes narrow profit margins. They drove our product requirements, so now we have a technology that is designed to overcome their specific technical challenges and support their unique business model. The fact that XenWinGo and other Service Providers are selecting our product further validates the investment we have made in the technology.”

New Features Automate Discovery, Deployment and Issue Remediation at Remote Sites

Philadelphia, PA January 09, 2013 – Goliath Technologies announced today that they have enhanced their market leading performance monitoring, analysis and reporting product to include new capabilities for service providers that remove the inherently challenging process of onboarding and managing remote sites for remote performance monitoring.

“One of the fastest growing segments of the cloud computing market is the service provider that manages on premise virtual and physical infrastructure from their central operations center. The overwhelming challenge is one of discovery, deployment and the remediation of any performance degradation”, said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. He continued, “virtual server and desktop deployments offer great benefits, but there is increased complexity so more SMB IT Departments are turning to Service Providers that have specific expertise. Having already invested in on premise equipment, these customers aren’t moving their infrastructure to the cloud but rather want specialists to manage certain IT assets for them. In our conversations with service providers that focus on remote monitoring, they speak of challenges bringing remote sites online specifically as it pertains to discovery of IT assets and deployment of monitoring solutions. If implementation is too costly or laborious it becomes a commercial obstacle, but without the full visibility that comes with monitoring of the entire infrastructure SLA’s are difficult to meet or at risk. We have developed a technology that offers automated discovery, deployment of Intelligent Agents and configuration of agentless collectors. Essentially our technology facilitates the onboarding process for service providers and enables remote performance monitoring that is proactive versus reactive.”

MonitorIT delivers a performance monitoring, analysis and reporting solution that monitors both physical and virtual infrastructure from one central console. The product is used by many cloud providers due to the native multi-tenancy, cross hypervisor support, and capability of monitoring physical servers, databases, applications, workstations and network elements. This service provider software requires no programming to deliver this functionality.

“Making the transition from PRTG to MonitorIT was an important strategic decision for DHI. In one product, MonitorIT offers the capability to monitor both VMware and XenServer hypervisors along with the physical infrastructure across VLANs, networks, and remote environments, which enables us to simplify our monitoring architecture.”, said Chris Chandler, Managing Partner of DHI. He continued, “But just as importantly, MonitorIT’s new “master agent” capability allows us to auto discover the virtual servers, physical servers, workstations and network devices at a remote location and then, using the “remote master agent” option, automatically deploy agents and configure agentless collection of each element in our remote customer environment. This has had the impact of simplifying administration, reducing the difficulty of onboarding customers, and improving time to remediation.”

“Our Intelligent Agent has always been the foundation of our remote monitoring capability because the unique architecture allows for easy configuration with low resource utilization. Though we do offer agentless monitoring, customers with stringent SLAs need the deep application and operating system visibility you can only get from an agent. Without an agent you can’t initiate automatic fix actions on the alerting remote server such as executing a script, batch, or other executable to remediate and fix the root cause”, said, Floyd Roberts, Vice President and CTO of the MonitorIT product line. He continued, “what we have done is enable our Intelligent Agent, deployed on a remote server, to discover the other servers, workstations and network devices, and then deploy our Windows Agent to these with a couple of mouse clicks via the MonitorIT central console to easily provide this deep application and operating system monitoring. Managing and deploying agents to remote servers and workstations could not be easier.”

PTI Commercial Sites Remote Management Capability as Key

Philadelphia PA November 27, 2012 - Perpetual Technologies Incorporated, provider of remote and on premises mission-critical database management and consulting services, announced today that they have selected Goliath Technologies MonitorIT to manage their customer environments.

“As a service provider we have SLA’s with our customers that require us to manage and monitor the performance of their infrastructure, applications and data bases with great efficiency. To deliver on our commitments we have to rely on tools to support our processes. We used a legacy product from a Global IT software management company for a number of years and it proved to be less than adequate for our needs in terms of both product functionality and related support” said Angie Gleim, Vice President of Business Operations for PTI Commercial. “The issues surrounding this technology became critical enough in our commercial business that we decided to move away from this product six months prior to the end of our contract. We used Goliath’s product in a small virtual server environment, but decided to expand their footprint and replace the legacy product for the entire IT infrastructure because of the ease of use, functionality that covers both physical and virtual environments, as well as the newly enhanced remote site management capability. Finally, we have found their support to be competent and responsive which is critical to our success.”

Goliath Technologies offers one of the only comprehensive infrastructure monitoring solutions in the market today that is able to be used by Cloud Providers.

“The issue that PTI faced with Nimsoft is not uncommon. Software companies with legacy solutions find it increasingly difficult to compete in the service provider market,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. “Our product, architected specifically for the challenges that IT Administrators face in managing hybrid, virtual, physical and cloud environments delivers cross platform functionality with no programming necessary and at a much lower cost. All of this compliments the business model and technical requirements of service providers.”

Complete Visibility of XenApp and Supporting Infrastructure Substantially Reduces Complexity of Supporting Desktop Virtualization

Philadelphia Pa, November 15, 2012 – Goliath Technologies announced today that they have enhanced their market leading performance monitoring, analysis and reporting product to include out-of-the-box integration into the XenApp Server, SQL Server, Web Interface, Windows Infrastructure and Virtual Servers/Machines. While always easy to use, these new enhancements give Goliath Technologies a tremendous lead over other offerings that either don’t provide this functionality or require months of programming time and expense to achieve it.

“Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to have the responsibility of determining the root cause of performance degradation, when you can’t see all the potential infrastructure elements that might be causing the issue? For the XenApp Administrator who hears the words ‘Citrix is slow,’ this is a reality” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. “The goal is a happy end user and the central challenge is that XenApp depends on networks, underlying physical or virtual servers, and other elements to deliver an acceptable user experience. Our product offers a lens into all of these components so that an administrator can determine causality, remediate quickly, provide objective evidence of root cause and automate fix actions based on best practices thresholds.”

MonitorIT delivers comprehensive monitoring for XenApp Farms and its dependent infrastructure to truly isolate the root cause of problems when they occur, on the local network or in remote environments. Using the XenApp Session Dashboard and Health Check, administrators can finally validate that XenApp is healthy and available, and if it is not, then quickly identify problems and initiate automated fix actions. And unlike other solutions, MonitorIT can look past XenApp itself, to see how the dependent infrastructure is impacting XenApp, including VMware or XenServer, network devices, physical servers and more.

C.P.U. Inc, in business since 1977, is a technical services and information systems service provider that provides infrastructure management services both on premises and hosted. Frank Jones, President of CPU, commented “We were using a product called N-able for performance monitoring, but we needed a product that gave us better visibility into remote customer environments where we manage XenServer, XenApp and the supporting infrastructure. A specific Bank with stringent SLA’s caused us to look for a product with functionality specifically designed for remote management of this type of environment. We selected Goliath Technologies after an extensive evaluation because they offered the capability to easily capture XenApp session information, so we could see which end users were accessing what applications on which XenApp server. Beyond XenApp, Monitor IT also monitors the underlying XenServer infrastructure and does this while supporting multi-tenancy where individual customers have the ability to log in and manage their environment.”

Philadelphia, PA – November 01, 2012

Goliath Technologies announced today that they have enhanced their market leading performance monitoring and reporting product MonitorIT with additional functionality that leverages the new capabilities of Citrix XenServer 6.1. The monitoring product from Goliath Technologies provides more visibility and control than any other product in the market. The combination of agentless and agent based approaches allows the user to monitor not only the virtual host and machines, but also the applications that reside on the guests. Other agentless monitoring products cannot provide that visibility into application performance. Conversely, most agent based products are too resource intensive to use in a virtual environment.

“Multiple hypervisors in one data center are becoming the norm. We see more of Citrix XenServer being deployed, both free and paid versions, in production environments which drives the need for management tools. Many of these virtual environments previously only had VMware, so there is an increasing requirement for cross hypervisor capability. The MonitorIT product already allows the virtualization specialist to manage both environments from one central console. Now, with the enhancements in XenServer 6.1 we can pull similar metrics from both hypervisors, which has been a consistent request from our customers”. Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies

“XenServer is gaining significant traction in the datacenter as the hypervisor of choice in cloud and virtual desktop deployments. As XenServer 6.1 advances our optimizations for these critical next-generation workloads, it is more important than ever that users have access to the right tools to monitor performance. Partners like Goliath provide an important part of the solution set with MonitorIT by offering needed visibility at the host and application layer.” Tom McCafferty, Senior Director of Product Marketing for XenServer

“With the XenServer 6.1 release, Citrix has added a number of really important Hypervisor API enhancements we now use to deliver great performance insight to administrators. We have always had the ability to gather CPU, Memory, and Disk performance, but now we have the ability to trend CPU wait times, host memory reclamation rate, storage latency, IOPS, and I/O wait times, which will especially help XenServer administrators to quickly identify bottlenecks in their virtual infrastructures,” said Raja Jadeja, Director of Technical Operations at Goliath Technologies. He continued, “This will simply allow us to gather more data and ultimately provide our customers with better visibility into the health and performance of their hosts, virtual machines, and applications.“

Goliath will be putting on a free webinar, November 8th, 2012 at 1:00pm EST entitled: Taking Advantage of New Enhancements in XenServer 6.1 to Improve Performance Monitoring and Reporting.

Remote site monitoring without deploying a server, enabled with new “Master Agent” capability in the base product

Philadelphia, PA - July 25, 2012

Goliath Technologies, the leader in systems management solutions for hybrid physical, virtual and cloud computing environments, announced the release of MonitorIT 10.3, which introduces a new user interface, enhanced reporting for VMware vSphere and Citrix XenServer, and master agent capability for monitoring of remote virtual environments. This update now makes it even easier and faster to solve complex monitoring issues. “MonitorIT has always had deep functionality. Now, with the redesign of the User Interface, customers can more easily and quickly leverage the product to monitor all aspects of their environment such as the virtual environment, networks, desktops and applications,” said Floyd Roberts, Chief Technical Officer of the MonitorIT Product Group.

One of the enhancements in the new version is in the simple set up wizards. These wizards easily walk users through the initial setup of the product, providing out-of-the-box monitoring in minutes. Once the simple setup is complete, monitoring rules can be assigned to applications, systems and devices. The setup of monitoring rules requires no programming so that any application, server or device is essentially capable of being monitored “out-of-the-box”.

Rain and Hail Insurance Services, Inc, a Division of ACE Group, one of the largest Multiline Property and Casualty Insurers in the world, is a customer of Goliath Technologies. Daniel Chodur, Virtual Infrastructure Administrator at Rain and Hail remarked, “MonitorIT has always had the ability to collect deep diagnostic data of the entire infrastructure. Actionable information is the key, because often decisions need to be made in real-time as issues are transpiring. The latest version is now more intuitive and it makes it easier to access the information we need see.” He continued, “In fact, it was critical for MonitorIT to coexist well in our complex environment. Because MonitorIT can integrate with other management solutions, we were able to use the single MonitorIT console to collect data from our environment and then send that information to Splunk for further analysis.”

As many administrators have indicated, the advent of virtualization has necessitated the need for better tools to trend performance and resource utilization. The latest release of MonitorIT provides enhanced reporting capabilities for VMware, vSphere and Citrix XenServer deployments to track Host, VM, and Storage performance with scheduled and on-demand reports. “Customers can now make better decisions about their virtual environment by leveraging these reports to gain important insights into changes in performance trends and better understand the CPU, Memory, and Storage utilization,” said Raja Jadeja, Sr. Director of Engineering Services.

Many distributed enterprises and service providers face challenges in monitoring the virtual environment outside of their core infrastructure. In order to monitor their Citrix XenServer, VMware, vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual hosts remotely, administrators often deploy secondary instances of their monitoring solutions, which complicates management or increases cost because proxies or secondary servers are required. Now, with the enhancement of the Intelligent Agent’s, “Master Agent functionality”, the IT professional can designate any agent at a remote site a master agent and it will monitor remote hypervisors and surrounding infrastructure, sending exception based alerts through the firewall when predetermined thresholds are breached.

Philadelphia, PA – July 16 2012

Goliath Technologies, a leading provider of systems management solutions for physical, cloud, and virtual environments, announced record growth in the first half of 2012. Sales increased more than 100% over the same time period in the prior year and new customers more than doubled.
Goliath Technologies Reports Record Growth in the First Half of 2012

“The desire to monitor the virtual infrastructure is certainly driving the market place. Whether it is Citrix XenServer, VMware, Hyper-V, or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure like Citrix XenApp/Desktop, customers are proactively searching for solutions,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of Goliath Technologies. “When they find us, they are excited to learn that we have the capacity to monitor both the virtual and physical infrastructure. This is critical because physical elements can impact the performance of the virtual environment. Many technologies only monitor the virtual environment and this creates ‘blind spots‘ that are either not monitored by the product, or require more than one product to monitor effectively.”

Goliath Technologies acquired many marquee customers in the first half of 2012 including Johns Hopkins University, NASA, University of Missouri, US Department of Commerce, Swanson, TSB Bank, Saigon National Bank, Fiserv, TradeWeb, and Wall Street Systems.

“The key buzz word I hear from my customers is consolidation,” said Bill Karounos, Founder of TransformaTech. He continued “Virtualization and Cloud Computing are certainly growing but most customers have hybrid environments so they are caught between legacy products that don’t monitor virtual servers and desktops or, if they do, it is costly. On the other hand, many new offerings are limited to monitoring only the virtual infrastructure. With the flexibility of managing VMware, Citrix XenServer, XenApp, and the surrounding physical infrastructure with either an agent or agentless solution, we are able to provide our customers with one solution for the entire environment. The kicker is that Goliath offers a generous trade out program that gives customers free licenses to replace legacy products so it removes the cost consideration around consolidation.”
